Why You Should Stop Smoking Weed

It's hard to stop something you enjoy doing, and trying to stop smoking weed is certainly no exception. Even if the time comes, and in invariably does, when using a substance no longer provides the same pleasure it once did, stopping can be very difficult. Whether the goal is one of trying to stop smoking weed, trying to stop smoking tobacco, or trying to stop drinking whiskey or that demon rum, it's always something easier said than done. It can be helpful to put together some good reasons for doing so, and start building a case. If somewhere along the line, you've convinced yourself that stopping is the best thing you can do for yourself, it still may not be easy, but at least will be easier.

A Bad “Friend” - At the risk of seeming to preach, and there's really no need to, there are plenty of parallels between the evils of smoking weed and the evils of drinking. Weed, like alcohol, can seem like a good friend for many years in fact, but invariably turns out to be a very untrustworthy friend at best, and no friend at all at worst. So, let's try to build a case to help stop smoking weed. Here are four very good reasons, and if they aren't enough, it isn't all that hard to find four or five more. When all is said and done, it becomes awfully difficult to argue that continuing on with the habit is better for you than is quitting.

Becoming A Social Misfit? - There are plenty of people in the world that can't cope in social situations unless they have a little bit of a buzz on, be it from weed or from alcohol. Eventually more than a light buzz is needed, and all to often an alcoholic can't seem to function at all at all except when in a haze, where eventually he or she can't function well while in a haze either. It you stop smoking weed, especially if you're at the point where you're using it as a crutch in social situations, something that's hard to admit, you may avoid becoming a social recluse which is where the path eventually ends. Just as is the case with the person who prefers to drink alone, smoking weed alone becomes not just a preferred lifestyle, but can even become an obsession. Don't become a social recluse.

A Time Waster - Ever watched an achiever close up? The mind is always working, and when not working on something productive is at least working on something interesting. The achiever just doesn't have the time to waste time, and life is too short to fritter too much of it away. The pot smoker doesn't only waste time sitting and enjoying his or her weed, but wastes time trying to find it, and also trying to hide it. It's not all that different from being a fugitive, or being in a Greek tragedy. No matter how hard you try, and how clever you may be, all the time spent searching, smoking, and hiding, will have been wasted when the inevitable bad ending occurs. Stop wasting time.

Is Your Health Important? - How about your health? In spite of all one reads about the need for medical marijuana, and maybe there is some truth to all of that, the fact remains that smoking doesn't make your lungs any healthier. Lungs get worse with smoking, and eventually may reach a tipping point where, even after one quits, the lungs won't feel the difference. Lung capacity is invariably affected, and it can get to the point you're spending more time in the house smoking weed, because the evening walk around the block is too much to handle. Instead of jogging 5 miles at a 7 mph pace every day, two times around the block takes the same 35 minutes. Your lungs have to work harder, and so does your heart, and your whole body can become stressed and subject to various diseases and disorders. How about your health?

Withdrawal, Better Now Than Later - The toughest thing of all when it comes time to stop smoking weed is withdrawal. This is where the rubber hits the road as it often is no fun at all. So, why stop smoking the stuff if I'm going to suffer anxiety disorders and other unpleasant things? There's no good answer, except if you wait longer, it will likely be worse. Time to take your medicine and get on with your life.
